Five “super” unhealthy Super Bowl foods (indystar)
With Super Bowl Sunday being America’s second-biggest food consumption day of
the year, it’s a good time to make sure you don’t totally ruin your healthy
eating practices or put yourself at risk with a gut-busting meal.
Even the occasional indulgence in really high-calorie, high-fat foods isn’t
really worth it, considering what it takes to work off those calories and the
damage they can to do your health. Perhaps some people, such as TV cooking
show host Paula Deen, think anything is okay in moderation, but that just
doesn’t cut it if you’re really trying to stay healthy or especially if you
need to reduce your cholesterol or blood pressure. In fact, the registered
dietitian for the non-profit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine,
based in Washington D.C., warned in a recent release that studies show sports
fan already face an elevated risk of heart attack on big game days. She adds,
“Adding fatty products will raise blood pressure, stiffen major arteries and
cause the heart to beat much faster. Football fans deserve to know that even
one very high-fat meal can raise the risk of heart problems on game day.”
